When you are a visual effects artist and a little bit “geek”, and you like a TV show, you may also want to recreate its visual effects. So… I made a Doctor Who fan video were I tried to reproduce the Time Vortex, the TARDIS, the Regeneration, and even a Dalek. And maybe it is a “fan video”, but it is also a visual effects and 3D work that combines 2D, 3D, 2D tracking, 3D tracking, particles…
The programs I used were After Effects, Cinema 4D, Photoshop and Mocha. Also it couldn’t have been possible without Trapcode’s plugins Particular and Shine.
The video was shot in a very busy square in the center of Madrid, in Spain, so there was people passing by in front of the camera all the time, but I knew that I could remove them in postproduction. Also, I knew I was going to replace the tree with the TARDIS.
Besides, I used for first time the After Effects tool Cineware, which turned out to be very useful when I had to match the original footage with Cinema 4D and the 3D TARDIS and Dalek:
